In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, players encounter Ilima at Hau’oli Cemetery during Mina’s trial to earn the Orange Petal. Following a post-game battle victory, Ilima entrusts the player with a piece of Normalium Z, instructing them to deliver it to Verdant Cavern for new trial-goers.

 

Upon attempting to place the Z-Crystal on the pedestal in Totem’s Den, the Totem Pokémon of Verdant Cavern initiates a rematch. After defeating the Totem, players can then correctly position the Z-Crystal in its designated place.

Despite his grandfather’s warning about a peculiar shovel, Kiawe, playing with friends, got possessed by a Sandygast. Somehow, he snapped out of its control. Later, he received his grandfather’s Charizard, making farm deliveries.

 

In A Fiery Training Camp Trick! , it was revealed that Kiawe intervened in a Turtonator vs. Crawdaunt battle, offering help after Turtonator’s repeated losses. After training and winning against Crawdaunt, Turtonator chose to join Kiawe. Kiawe, now a Pokémon School student on Melemele Island, completed Olivia’s grand trial with Turtonator, inheriting the Z-Ring and Firium Z. He crowned Turtonator at the Wela Fire Festival, strengthening their bond.

Kiawe befriended classmates Lana, Sophocles, and Mallow, as well as pre-graduate Ilima. Later, he welcomed another classmate, Lillie, into their circle.

In Sun and Moon, these include a Tiny Mushroom, a Mago Berry, a Miracle Seed, and a Revival Herb; in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, they consist of a Mago Berry, a Honey, and a Big Root. Once the ingredients are collected, Mallow calls upon Lana and Kiawe for cooking supplies. The gathered items are then skillfully combined into a meal, producing an enticing aroma that lures the trial’s Totem Pokémon, Lurantis.

 

Moon and Ultra Moon exclusive ~

Following the player’s victory over Olivia in Pokémon Moon (or becoming Champion in Ultra Moon), a visit to the second floor of a restaurant in Konikoni City during the daytime reveals Mallow in her room. Mallow, upon a player’s request, heads to the Lush Jungle for a battle. Upon her departure, her older brother approaches the player, asking them to persuade Mallow to search for his missing Wimpod. In the jungle, Mallow discloses that Wimpod had been collecting ingredients for her family’s restaurant before engaging in a battle with the player.

 

Post-battle, Mallow shares her aspirations for the future, expressing her intent to take over her family business. As a gesture of gratitude for hearing her story, she awards the player the Reverent battle style. Mallow departs, realizing the need to retrieve her brother’s Pokémon.
