Gym Structure ~
(Black and White) ~
The Nimbasa Gym in Pokémon Black and White looks like an amusement park with lots of colorful lights, floating stars, and roller coasters. When the player enters, there’s a big room with transparent platforms. The player has to get around the Gym by getting into the roller coaster cars, which take them to the next platform.
Some Trainers hide inside these roller coaster cars and challenge the player to battles when they open them. There are also switches that change the path of the roller coasters, but they’re guarded by Trainers too. The final roller coaster is a bit different with a big loop-the-loop. Once the player has gone through all this, they’ll face Elesa on a transparent platform with the Gym logo. After defeating her, there’s a shortcut to leave the Gym.
Black 2 and White 2 ~
Elesa relocated the Nimbasa Gym to a different building close by. The new Gym is designed as a lengthy catwalk, and challengers must face three Trainers before reaching Elesa.
Meanwhile, the old Gym, named “the Shining Roller Coaster,” is still operational, with a few Trainers inside. To access the new Gym, players need to navigate through the old Gym first.

Encounter ~
Black and White —
Clay, the Gym Leader of Driftveil City, is the fifth gym leader player encounter in their journey. He specializes in Ground-types. Clay’s role extends beyond the Gym, aiding the player in removing obstacles like Galvantula webs. When the player faces the Seven Sages, Clay steps up as the first of the Unova Gym Leaders to support them. He’s recognized as the “Miner King”. He’s also responsible for the discovery of Fossils on Twist Mountain, which he generously donates to the Nacrene City Museum.
Black 2 and White 2 —
In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, Clay resumes his role as a Gym Leader. After the Gym battle, Clay guides the player to the Pokémon World Tournament, where exciting challenges await.
Gym Structure ~
Black and White —
Driftveil Gym is built like a mining operation with elevators and girders. To challenge Clay, players must first deal with Team Plasma in Cold Storage. Inside the Gym, there are elevators resembling a mine shaft layout that players must navigate up and down.
Additionally, they need to cross girders to access the central elevator leading to Clay at the bottom of the shaft. While making their way down, players encounter five Trainers, but only need to battle three to reach the Gym Leader. One of the Trainers hints that the Gym’s depth symbolizes Clay’s humble beginnings.
Black 2 and White 2 —
In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, the Driftveil Gym has a different setup. Instead of elevators, a conveyor belt puzzle leads the player to landing platforms. When a player lands on a platform, it lights up. Some conveyor belts go underneath a platform, jumping to the one beyond it. There are viewing platforms too.
This time, the player will face seven trainers in the Gym, but only two are needed to reach Clay. As the player lights up more platforms, the ground becomes visible with crystal stalagmites and air vents connecting through the Gym. Near Clay’s platform, there’s an air vent. The Gym floor also has drilling machines, wheelbarrows, and shovels scattered around.

• Skyla made her debut in “Cilan Takes Flight!” where challengers had to make reservations to face her unique “Air Battle” method instead of traditional battles. In this approach, Skyla analyzed her opponents and decided outcomes based on type advantages. If she thought her team would lose, she’d grant the Jet Badge; otherwise, she’d deny it. This method frustrated Ash, Cilan, and even her grandfather, former Gym Leader Miles, who thought she should do traditional battles.
• Cilan then challenged Skyla for a battle, Skyla accepted Cilan’s challenge as it would be her first battle against another Gym Leader. She conducted her “Air Battle” and concluded she had won. However, Cilan convinced her to engage in a traditional battle. Despite her initial prediction, she emerged victorious in the real battle and maintained her unique style.
• To further teach Skyla about being a Gym Leader, Ash challenged her to an “Amazing Aerial Battle!” which he won, earning the Jet Badge. This experience made Skyla realize the importance of being a proper Gym Leader.
• Skyla made cameo appearances in flashbacks during two episodes, “Curtain Up, Unova League!” and “Survival of the Striaton Gym!” She also appeared briefly in the credits of “Genesect and the Legend Awakened.”

Black —
In Pokémon Black version, Drayden is the Gym Leader of Opelucid City, specializing in powerful Dragon-type Pokémon. He awaits challengers at the city’s Gym.
White —
In Pokémon White, once the player has conquered the Pokémon League, Drayden can be found in his Opelucid City home. In this version of the game, Iris assumes the role of the Gym Leader. Drayden’s unique offer remains intact: he’ll teach Draco Meteor to the player’s Dragon-type Pokémon with high friendship.
In both versions, He shows up at N’s Castle along with many other Unova Gym Leaders to held off Seven Sages.
Black 2 and White 2 ~
In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, Drayden returns as a Gym Leader, but this time, he’s the seventh Gym challenge for the player. After the Gym battle, he takes the player to his home in Opelucid City and shares information about the legendary Dragon-type Pokémon Kyurem. An explosion caused by the Plasma Frigate’s ice cannon interrupts their conversation. Drayden attempts to break the ice with his Haxorus but discovers it’s indestructible when Zinzolin arrives searching for the DNA Splicers. After dealing with Team Plasma Grunts and defeating Zinzolin, the Shadow Triad steals the DNA Splicers. Despite the player’s victory against one of the Triad members, they escape with the Splicers. Cheren then arrives, and Drayden advises the player to head to Humilau City.
Later, Drayden offers to teach Draco Meteor to the player’s Dragon-type Pokémon if they have a strong friendship with them.
Gym Structure ~
Black —
The Opelucid Gym is like a tricky maze. There are switches that make dragon statues’ heads move, creating new paths for you. If you hit the switches in the right order, you’ll find your way to the Gym Leader. After beating the Leader, there’s a shortcut back to the entrance through a warp tile.
Clyde explains how the maze works, but he makes a mistake by saying there are only two dragons when there are actually three.
Black 2 and White 2 ~
In Black 2 and White 2, they changed the Opelucid Gym to hide the DNA Splicers. Now, the Gym has a white dragon on one wall and a black dragon on another. You can control the black dragon by stepping on buttons on its head.
There are Trainers on four different levels, and you have to beat at least one Trainer on each level to move up. When you reach the top level, you’ll face Drayden. The DNA Splicers are hidden somewhere in the Gym. Because of this, after you defeat Drayden, Team Plasma freezes Opelucid City.

● Anime ~
Pre series —
Iris, originally from the Village of Dragons in the Unova region, spent her early days playing with wild Pokémon in the nearby forest. Despite initially finding Dragon-type Pokémon scary, her perception changed when she encountered an injured Druddigon that saved her from a Scolipede.
Another significant encounter happened when she confronted a mischievous Drilbur that had wronged a Patrat. After a series of battles and bonding moments, Iris tamed the Drilbur, and they became close friends. Through their adventures and victories, Drilbur eventually evolved into an Excadrill.
Later, Iris met Drayden, a Dragon Master, who recognized her battling skills. She challenged him but faced a humbling defeat. This defeat caused a rift between her and her Excadrill, leading it to become distant and closed off emotionally.
Iris then moved to Opelucid City to attend the Opelucid Academy, where she faced difficulties in school, struggled to make friends, and yearned for the simpler life of her village. Homesick and dissatisfied, she eventually dropped out and returned to her hometown.
Years later, the village elder tasked Iris with raising a newly hatched Axew to become a powerful Haxorus. Embracing this challenge, she embarked on her journey with hopes of becoming a Dragon Master herself.
