● Games (Sword and Shield) ~
• In Game ~
Bede, one of the player’s rivals, is an arrogant and rude young man personally sponsored by Rose. Rose provided Bede with his first Pokémon, later revealed to be his Hatterene, during a visit to Bede’s orphanage. Initially encountered by the player and Hop when signing up for the Gym Challenge, Bede remains nameless at that time. While participating in the Gym Challenge to become Champion, Bede collects numerous Wishing Stars to support Chairman Rose’s ambitions. However, his zealous pursuit leads to harm to a historic landmark in Stow-on-Side, resulting in Rose disqualifying him from the Gym Challenge.
Upon the player’s return from Ballonlea with the Fairy Badge, Opal notices Bede’s sullen demeanor and suggests him to become her successor. Bede reluctantly agrees, hoping to become stronger in the process. Bede later reemerges as a Gym Leader, disrupting the finals of the Champion Cup to challenge the player, staking his career on the outcome. Despite his loss, Bede, initially regretting accepting Opal’s offer, planned to use the battle result as an excuse to distance himself from his mentor. However, encouraged by the crowd’s cheers despite his defeat, Bede commits to continued training, aiming to surpass Opal completely.
After the player becomes Champion, Bede, along with Hop and former Gym Leader Piers, heads to Ballonlea Stadium to confront Sordward and Shielbert. In the lobby, Bede confidently announces that he has already dealt with most Dynamax Pokémon causing trouble in his Stadium. Despite attempts to leave, Bede insists on battling the new Champion. After some encouragement from Opal, the group agrees, and Bede, acknowledging the player’s strength, accepts them as Champion. Now a more humble Trainer, Bede vows to overcome his weaknesses and elevate Fairy types to their pinnacle.

Ballonlea Stadium, situated at the northernmost part of the town and spanning across a wooden bridge over a small lake, serves as the venue for the fifth installment of the Galar region’s Gym Challenge. Similar to other stadiums in the region, Ballonlea Stadium features a Poké Mart and a uniform shop.
The Gym mission revolves around Gym Leader Opal’s quest to find a successor, prompting challengers to undergo an examination. The mission consists of three Trainer battles, and after the first turn of each battle, players are posed a question with two possible answers. A correct answer results in a boost to the player’s Pokémon’s stats, while an incorrect answer leads to a stat reduction. This pattern continues during the Gym battle, where Opal presents questions at the end of specific turns, with the correct answers bolded for guidance.
