First encounter—
In the games Roark serves as the first Gym Leader players encounter in their journey.
When the player arrives in Oreburgh City to challenge the Gym he/she comes to know about his absence in the gym and then went to look for him in the Oreburgh Mines.
However, when the player founds him in the mines Roark heads of to the Gym and ask the player to come and challenge him there.
Gym Structure~
◇ The Oreburgh Gym has a mining theme, fitting for the city’s focus.
◇ The Gym is constructed with stone and boasts a narrow layout. Inside, trainers are presented with two distinct paths to choose from. The first is an elevated path that allows them to bypass Gym Trainers, while the second is a central path that leads directly through the gym. At the end of these paths, Gym Leader Roark awaits on a raised hill.
◇ The Gym consist of two trainers. If the player choose the central path then he/she has to battle the trainers in order to reach Roark. These trainers specialises in Rock type Pokemon’s.

● ANIME~
◇In the episode “Shapes of Things to Come!”, Roark made his debut while excavating for fossils in Oreburgh Mine.
◇A battle ensued between Roark and Paul, showcasing Roark’s skills; however, Paul emerged victorious and earned the Coal Badge from Roark.
◇Roark engaged in a match against Ash in the episode “Gruff Act to Follow!”, emerging as the winner.
◇In the episode “Wild in the Streets!“, Roark utilized his Cranidos to confront a wild Aerodactyl released by Team Rocket. This event occurred in Oreburgh City, coinciding with Roark’s Cranidos evolving into Rampardos.
◇In the episode “O’er the Rampardos We Watched,” Ash had a rematch with Roark and emerged victorious and earned the Coal Badge.
◇In the episode “Ancient Family Matters,” Roark confronted his father Byron in Canalave City over lingering family tensions. Roark revealed that Byron left the Oreburgh Gym to him when asked to oversee the Canalave Gym, indicating a lack of concern for him and his mother. A heated argument erupted regarding their shared passion for fossils, leading to a battle. Team Rocket’s interruption halted their evenly matched duel. However, post their victory against Team Rocket, Byron unveiled a Sunkern’s leaf fossil Roark had given him as a child. This revelation resolved their conflicts, and Roark came to realize his father’s enduring care.
◇In “Dealing With Defensive Types!” episode, Roark took on the role of referee during Ash’s Gym battle against Byron.

First encounter~
In the games Gardenia serves as the second Gym Leader players encounter in their journey.
Player first encounters her in front of the Old Chateau, Gardenia emerges to caution the player about the enigmatic tales of hauntings that envelop the area. She hints at herself being afraid of ghosts.
After this players may later encounter Gardenia once again when they challenge her as the Grass-type Gym Leader in Eterna City.
Gym Structure~
◇Gardenia’s gym structure in Eterna City is a reflection of her affinity for nature and plants.
◇ In Pokemon Diamond/ Pearl and BDSP Beyond the green foyer, Eterna Gym features a maze-like indoor forest, resembling a greenhouse. Trainers and Gym Leader Gardenia conceal themselves amidst trees and natural elements. Gardenia only battles challengers once her students are defeated, adding an additional layer of challenge to the gym experience.
◇ In Pokemon Platinum the gym is Divided by a central clock, the gym comprises four zones. The clock’s hands shift as trainers are defeated, guiding progression. When hands align, players access new areas. In the northern zone, Gardenia stands ready at 12 o’clock. Additionally, deactivated sprinklers permit exits for later return.
◇ There are only female trainers in the Gym specialising in Grass-types.

●ANIME
◇In her debut episode, “The Grass-Type Is Always Greener,” Gardenia united with Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Cheryl to seek Amber Castle. While facing Team Rocket, she surprisingly took a liking to James’s Carnivine and Cacnea, instead of being alarmed by their thievery. Gardenia defeated them and subsequently departed the group due to a pressing message from a Nuzleaf. This episode also revealed her strong bond with Grass-type Pokémon.
◇In the episode “A Secret Sphere of Influence!,” Gardenia made an appearance at the Historical Museum. There, she crossed paths with Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Nando once more. The surprising revelation came to light that Nando had indeed triumphed in a gym battle against Gardenia. This unexpected revelation caught Ash and the others off guard, as they learned that Gardenia was, in fact, the Eterna Gym Leader. Furthermore, Gardenia, accompanied by her Turtwig, played a pivotal role in recovering the stolen Adamant Orb, an item that had been taken by Team Rocket.
◇In “The Grass Menagerie!” episode, Gardenia engaged in a Gym battle against Ash. She employed her formidable Grass-type Pokémon, exerting significant pressure on him throughout the battle. Despite the challenges, Ash emerged victorious, securing the Forest Badge as his reward.
◇In “Once There Were Greenfields,” Gardenia visited Emeragrove Town to promote Pokémon battling. She teamed up with James for a Tag Battle against Ash and Dawn. Using Turtwig and Cacnea, they faced Ash’s Aipom and Dawn’s Pachirisu. Gardenia paid particular attention to Cacnea. In the battle Ash and Dawn emerged victorious. Post-battle, she offered to train James’s Cacnea to make it stronger, an offer he accepted hesitantly.
◇She appeared in Barry’s flashback in the episode“Barry’s Busting Out All Over!”. Where he disclosed that he had acquired the Forest Badge from her.

Pokemon Platinum
In the Platinum Version of the game, players first cross paths with Crasher Wake as they attempt to enter Veilstone Gym. Notably, his unique character is introduced through moments like him singing his theme song in Pastoria City.
In Pokémon Platinum, Barry blocks the entrance of the gym, requiring the player’s to defeat him in a battle before passage. He initiates a challenge after the player obtains the Cobble Badge and triumphs over the two Galactic Grunts within Veilstone City.
Gym Structure~
◇ The Pastoria Gym presents an expansive indoor swimming pool adorned with multiple floating platforms. Embedded in the pool floor, switches control water levels across three tiers. To reach the Gym Leader, trainers must strategically activate switches in a specific sequence, creating a navigable path using the floating platforms.
◇ There are six trainers that Player has to defeat in order to challenge Crasher Wake.

◇ The player recieves Fen Badge as a symbol of victory in the Pastoria Gym. The Badge gives the ability to use Defog(Diamon/Pearl and BDSP) or Surf(Patinum).
◇Moreover Wake also gives TM 56(Stealth Rock).
◇After the gym battle when palyer comes out of the gym the rival tells the player that he wants Wake to be his mentor. In the meantime Wake also comes out of the Gym and tells the player and rival that they don’t need any mentor they are stronger on their own. Crasher Wake also acts when a Galactic Bomb goes off at the Great Marsh.

◇ In “Cream of the Croagunk Crop!,” Crasher Wake made his first appearance, encountering Ash, Dawn, and Brock outside his Gym. He explained that he couldn’t battle that day, as he was set to judge the Pastoria Croagunk Festival. Following the festival’s conclusion, he informed Ash of his willingness to battle, having been impressed by Ash’s victory over Team Rocket.

◇Comprising multiple interconnected chambers with movable walls, the Veilstone Gym embodies a dojo-like setting. Trainers linger within compact enclosures, awaiting their turn. To reach Maylene, the walls necessitate shuffling in and out of these compartments, aligning empty spaces to form a clear path.
Pokemon Platinum~
In Pokémon Platinum, players need to maneuver punching bags to topple stacks of tires obstructing the way.
◇Before challenging Maylene the player has to defeat four black belt brothers who call them “Karate Quads”.

Upon entering Route 217 in Platinum, the player comes across her. She’s in the midst of training by walking to Snowpoint City, choosing not to use Fly even if she’s capable of it. Despite the cold weather, she’s lightly dressed and barefoot, displaying her resilience to the chilly climate. In Snowpoint’s Pokémon Center, she expresses her admiration for Candice’s studious nature and hints at meeting her again in the future.

The player’s initial meeting with Fantina takes place in front of the Hearthome City Contest Hall. Here, she introduces herself as both a Contest star and the Gym Leader of Hearthome City. She encourages the player to become stronger if they wish to challenge her in the future. However, after this when the player’s visit to the Gym, they discover that Fantina is not present at that moment.
The player can only challenge Fantina Once the player obtains HM03 (Surf) from Cynthia’s grandmother in Celestic Town.
Pokemon Platinum~
Upon the player’s arrival in Hearthome City, they encounter Fantina inside the Contest Hall. Here, she introduces herself as both a renowned contest star and the Gym Leader of Hearthome. Following a brief conversation, she departs from the contest hall. In Pokémon Platinum, players have the opportunity to battle her at her Gym shortly after this encounter.

The Hearthome Gym stands as a vast, five-story structure crafted from gray stone blocks, its ambiance illuminated by eerie gray-blue torches. Within each floor, a straightforward mathematical puzzle is presented, accompanied by three doors that correspond with the puzzle answers. Choosing the correct door propels one to the next elevator level, whereas the two incorrect doors lead to both a Trainer battle and a dead end. The Calculator App on the Pokétch can be employed to swiftly deduce the correct answers. Finally, on the fifth floor, the Gym Leader awaits in a room that mimics a cathedral, boasting stained glass windows and serving as the culmination of the challenging journey.
◇Within these games, on the second, third, fourth, and fifth floors of the gym, players encounter a total of two trainers on each floor whom they must defeat in order to advance and ultimately face Fantina.
Pokemon Platinum~
◇In Platinum, the Gym is shrouded in darkness, with illumination being quite scarce. To navigate, the player relies on a flashlight, searching for a specific blue tile on the floor that aligns with the correct door. Selecting the wrong door forces the player back to the lobby, and the blue tile’s position resets after each Gym entry. Duskull lamps act as visible barriers, aiding the player’s movement. Along the way, the player encounters additional Trainers equipped with flashlights, engaging in battles as they progress toward their battle with Fantina.

Upon the player’s arrival in Sunyshore City, Elite Four member Flint greets them. He explains that Volkner, the Gym Leader, has lost his enthusiasm for battles due to what he perceives as lackluster challengers. Volkner now finds battles unexciting and dedicates most of his time to renovating the Gym.
After learning that Volkner is at the lighthouse, the player heads there. Volkner agrees to the challenge but adds that if he doesn’t find the match intriguing, he intends to challenge the Pokémon League.
Then the player challenge Volkner in his Gym.
Gym Structure~
◇Volkner designed the Sunyshore Gym due to boredom, resulting in a three-room layout. The main floor features colossal gears and clockwork-supported platforms controlled by buttons. Trainers must strategically rotate these platforms in the correct sequence to forge a route, which involves engaging in battles with fellow Trainers. The Gym’s open dynamos consume significant electrical power, compelling the city to transform the pathways into solar energy collectors for renovation.
◇ There are total of 8 trainers that Player must defeat in order to challenge Volkner.
1st Match~
◇After reaching to Volkner player engages in a battle for the Beacon Badge.

◇Volkner’s upbringing in Sunyshore City exposed him to battles against gangs and Pokémon poachers. Meeting Flint, he lost a challenge but later defeated him, sparking a strong rivalry turned friendship. Flint’s departure to join the Sinnoh Elite Four left Volkner as the Sunyshore City Gym Leader.
In his new role, Volkner’s fascination with technology grew, distancing him from battles. This led him to create the city’s automated walkways, solar panels, and the iconic Sunyshore Tower.

Pokemon Sinnoh Series~
◇In “Challenging a Towering Figure!,” Palmer initially references Volkner, suggesting that Ash’s battling skills could surprise him. In “Fighting Ire with Fire!,” Paul also alludes to a concern at the Sunyshore Gym, expressing frustration and labeling it as “not legit.”
◇In “Flint Sparks the Fire!,” Ash arrived at Sunyshore Gym to find a machine giving out free Beacon Badges. Determined for a real battle, Ash was removed by security. Flint intervened, guiding them to Volkner at Sunyshore Tower. Despite Ash’s request, Volkner declined due to boredom. After witnessing Ash’s battle with Flint, he became interested in battling again and decided to accept Ash’s challenge for a Gym battle
◇During “The Fleeing Tower of Sunyshore!,” Volkner and Ash commenced their Gym battle, only for Team Rocket to steal the Sunyshore Tower, causing a blackout. Following Ash’s victory over Team Rocket, damaged tower and Gym prompted Volkner to delay the rematch for repairs.
◇During “A Grand Fight for Winning!,” Volkner contacts Nurse Joy to inform Ash of his readiness for their battle.
◇In “The Eighth Wonder of the Sinnoh World!,” Ash revisited Sunyshore to challenge Volkner following the tower incident. Engaging in a fierce battle, Volkner employed electrifying tactics, but Ash emerged victorious.
◇In “Four Roads Diverged in a Pokémon Port!,” Flint expresses gratitude to Ash, attributing Volkner’s return to his previous self and regular Gym duties to Ash’s influence.
Journey Series~
◇At the conclusion of “Thrash of the Titans!“, Volkner’s silhouette emerged, indicating his participation in the World Coronation Series.
◇ In “All Out, All of the Time!“, it was unveiled that Ash’s upcoming match in the World Coronation Series would be against Volkner, who held the 27th rank in the competition.
◇Making a reappearance in “Ultra Exciting from the Shocking Start!”, Volkner engaged in his World Coronation Series battle against Ash in Sunyshore City. Despite a challenging match, Ash managed to triumph over Volkner once more, advancing further in the Ultra Class. Volkner foresaw Ash becoming “the eye of the storm” not only in the Ultra Class but also in the Master Class, where Cynthia held her rank.
◇In “The Fiery Road to Mastership!“, Volkner made an appearance alongside Flint, watching the Masters Eight Tournament match between Cynthia and Iris through a Rotom Phone.

From the determined passion of Volkner to the nurturing nature of Gardenia, these leaders showcase a wide spectrum of traits.
In conclusion, the Sinnoh Gym Leaders embody a rich tapestry of qualities, making them an integral part of the Pokémon universe. Their diverse approaches and dynamic personalities contribute to the memorable experience of the Sinnoh region.
